Developed a mobile laboratory that detects Listeria monocytogenes in less than three hours

Innovative progress in food safety: a faster method of sampling and detection of Listeria on industrial surfaces that, automatically, obtains accurate results. The technology is based on a biochemical reaction that allows to separate and to detect the bacteria of Listeria monocytogenes in the samples. The bacterium causes Listeriosis, one of the most dangerous pathogens of food infections. In 2013, 71 food alerts for Listeria monocytogenes were detected in the EU, 59 in 2014 according to RASFF data. In 2012, a total of 1,642 cases of listeriosis were detected in people in the EU. After five years of research, the Biolisme II European project, a consortium led by Betelgeux  in collaboration with AINIA CENTRO TECNOLÓGICO , the University of Southampton, Dublin City University and Photek (UK) and 40:30 (France), has been able to develop for the first time an innovative method of detecting Listeria Monocytogenes on industrial surfaces in contact with food.
