IAN Group, new Bisphenol A-free metal packages

With the aim of ensuring food safety in sterilized products (canned vegetables and fruits), AINIA Technology Centre has worked with IAN Group, leading company in canned vegetables, in a study on the migration of compounds (organic and inorganic) from the package (varnish) to the product and the development of new metal packages with Bisphenol A-free varnishes.

The project, which has had the support of the INNPACTO programme, has made it possible to clarify the chemical migrations that take place between the new materials (BPA-free) used in the packages and the foods. The results of the project have been very satisfactory: The specific migrations went more than 10 times beyond the migration limit established in applicable law. These results give a competitive edge to this food group, with a great export potential in Europe and in the French market.
