According to the European Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy, by 2030, all plastic packaging on the EU market should be reusable or able to be recycled in a cost-effective way. In addition to a reduction in environmental impact, the goal is to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, minimise food waste and adapt packaging to new consumer demands. Developments in packaging are therefore focused on balancing shelf life, product safety and environmental impact.

Eco-design packaging

When designing disruptive packaging that is technically and economically feasible, we work with all the agents in the value chain, including the end consumer. We determine the combination of materials (polymeric or not) and packaging systems based on the product to be packaged. Our aim is to achieve safe and functional packaging that is both easy to recycle and ergonomic. We obtain packaging with new functionalities through various means. These include the use of bioplastics, the addition of new additives by means of microencapsulation or supercritical fluid impregnation techniques, and the use of nanomaterials. Our entire design process takes into account the national and EU regulatory framework for the use of materials in contact with food and cosmetics, among others.
