Ensuring that your food products are safe and legally compliant
The presence of pharmacologically active substances and other substances of veterinary use in food is regulated at an international (Codex Alimentarius) and European level (through different Guidelines and Regulations). There are also specific legislations for other non-EU countries.
Our services enable companies in the meat, seafood (especially farmed fish products) and other animal-based product sectors (honey, eggs or egg products) to verify their product compliance with regulatory or voluntary requirements in this area.
There is also a technological reason for identifying the existence of such substances. Their presence may interfere chemically or biologically in production processes (e.g. fermentation processes or milk maturation).
It is particularly important for the official control authorities to monitor these types of residues in products produced domestically and in those that are imported or destined for export. The National Residues Investigation Plan (PNIR) is our country’s instrument for monitoring live animals and their products for the presence of medicinal product residues and their metabolites.
